Premier Li Keqiang visited the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone on March 25 in South China’s Hainan province, China’s first medical tourism center, and praised the new business model that combined medical care with vacation.

The Premier stated that medical tourism is a project of people’s livelihood and a form of the new economy.

“The people’s health is the basis for China’s long-term development, so a high standard should be set for the medical tourism industry,” he said.

When he saw experts on cancer therapy from hospitals from Hainan province, Tianjin municipality and Universität Hamburg in Germany discussing the treatment methods of a Chinese patient through remote devices on the Internet, the Premier highly praised the treatment method of “medical care plus the Internet”.

“Even though you are thousands of miles apart, the remote medical care devices avoid the distances by bringing you together,” Premier Li said.

He urged the governments at all levels to implement policies that allow medical workers to work for different medical institutes during a visit to the Hainan Tumor Hospital on March 25.

Problems still exist that employers in the medical industry wouldn’t let go of their employees although such good policies have been worked out, the Premier said.

He hailed a worker, who sends back 8,000 yuan of his 9,000 yuan salary every month to support his family, for his contribution to the country at the construction site of the pilot zone.

“Many workers like you save money for their family. The projects you build will help more people live a healthier life,” the Premier told the worker.
