Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and decided to officially launch the annual dialogue mechanism between Chinese and Canadian prime ministers.

During the meeting in Ottawa on Sept 22, the two leaders held in-depth and wide-ranging talks on China-Canada relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

It was their second meeting in a month as Trudeau had just wrapped up his visit to China at the beginning of this month.

Premier Li’s visit to Canada is the first one by a Chinese premier in 13 years.

The two leaders attended a signing ceremony for a series of bilateral cooperative documents at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, on Sept 22.

Representatives from both countries signed 14 documents, including a “joint statement on the third party market cooperation”, covering trade, investment, finance, tourism, education and judicial cooperation.

During their joint meeting with journalists, Premier Li said that, with broad common interests and sound bilateral ties, he is confident that China and Canada will expand cooperation, deepen friendship and enhance political mutual trust.
