Premier Li Keqiang visited an exhibition on cooperation results among Lancang-Mekong countries in Phnom Penh on Jan 10, along with leaders from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar.

The leaders included Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and Myanmar Vice-President U Myint Swe.

Premier Li and the five leaders experienced sitting behind the wheel of a simulated cockpit of the Fuxing, China’s new-generation high-speed bullet train, scrutinizing its interior configuration and operating conditions.

The interconnectivity of infrastructure is one of the priority areas in Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), Premier Li said. The China-Laos and China-Thailand railway projects have started, becoming flagship programs on production capacity cooperation between the two countries and China.

High-speed railways have become “a golden name card” of China’s manufacturing, he said, adding that China is willing to use its advantages in technology and experiences to align with development needs of countries in the region to enhance infrastructure and interconnectivity levels.

After being informed about the development of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ), Premier Li hailed progress made in the project and said that China eyes further cooperation with Cambodia to continue to advance SSEZ projects to improve people’s well-being.

Mobike, a rising giant of China’s sharing bikes, was also among the exhibits. It’s been well-received in Thailand since being put on the Thai market in November 2017. Premier Li affirmed the internet-aided low-carbon commuting mode established by Mobike, which is conducive to the flourishing new economy and business types among Lancang-Mekong countries.

Having visited exhibits on agriculture, construction materials, and other fields, Premier Li stressed that innovation is the very backbone of Lancang-Mekong cooperation, and that China and other countries concerned should cement their ties in a bid to usher in successive surges in accomplishments that benefit people and new drivers of economic development.
