The main reason behind China’s 6.5 percent growth target this year is to ensure employment, said Premier Li Keqiang. The Premier answered questions from domestic and foreign journalists on China’s policies at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, after the closing of the Fifth Session of the 12th National People’s Congress on March 15.

Employment is the foundation of the economy and the major source of household income, Premier Li noted.

He said the country succeeded in creating more than 13 million new urban jobs annually over the past four years.
