State Councilor Wang Yong (L) meets with the Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal in Algiers, Algeria, May 28, 2016.

ALGIERS — China and Algeria agreed during a recent visit by a senior Chinese official to the North African nation to boost their infrastructure and production capacity cooperation.

Wang Yong, the State Councilor, has just wrapped up his visit to Algeria, the third and last leg of his three-nation tour, which has already taken him to Oman and Jordan.

While meeting with Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, Wang said the two nations’ pragmatic cooperation has gained much headway since the two established a comprehensive strategic partnership.

China would like to work with Algeria in infrastructure, production capacity, technology transfer and personnel training, and push forward the mega sea port project, said Wang, adding that Beijing also wants to encourage more Chinese firms to invest in the country.

For his part, Sellal said his country takes China as the most important strategic partner for promoting Algeria’s own development, and will continue to support China in issues related to China’s core interests and major concerns.

He also said that Algeria is willing to promote bilateral cooperation in industries, infrastructure, finances, and manpower so as to materialize common development and mutual benefits.
