State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Xiao Jie addressed the 7th congress of the Chinese Public Administration Society (CPAS) in Beijing on Jan 8.

Xiao said that since its establishment 30 years ago, CPAS has carried out studies, academic discussions, consulting activities and international exchanges around theoretical and practical issues in China’s public administration, achieving fruitful results.

He urged the society to study major issues, such as transformation of government functions and the reform in streamlining administration, delegating powers and optimizing services, in order to provide better theoretical and intellectual support.

Efforts should be made to establish a platform for policy-making consulting, innovative practices and academic exchanges, build a new-type think tank and make greater contributions to the development of administrative sciences, administrative system reform, government building, and sustainable and healthy socio-economic development.

The congress elected CPAS’ 7th council and Jiang Xiaojuan as its president. Over 300 representatives from local societies, government departments, universities and research institutions attended the meeting.
