BEIJING — Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan called on China’s colleges and universities to improve sci-tech innovation and talent cultivation on Oct 11.

Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour of Tsinghua University.

“Colleges and universities should focus on national strategies and key areas, improve the allocation of sci-tech resources and inspire innovation vitality to provide powerful support for high-quality development,” Sun said.

Sun urged colleges and universities to strengthen collaborative innovation with local governments, research institutes and enterprises to achieve major breakthroughs in the independent innovation of key technologies.

She also called for better management of research projects, more scientific evaluation systems for researchers and an improved talent cultivation mechanism.
