The 7th ASEAN-China Defense Ministers’ Informal Meeting was held in Clark, the Philippines, on Oct 23. State Councilor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan attended the meeting with the heads of defense organs from the 10 ASEAN countries.

The ongoing 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has vital significance for China to build a moderately well-off society in the home stretch, said Chang.

“Both China and ASEAN are entering a new era,” he said. “Sharing a community of common destiny, China will continue its efforts to cooperate with ASEAN in various areas, such as anti-terrorism and security.”

The ASEAN countries’ defense leaders extended their congratulations to the 19th CPC National Congress, and expressed appreciation for China’s contribution to the region’s peace in philosophy and in actions.

They also said they are willing to continue exploring cooperation with China and face challenges together to maintain the region’s prosperity and development.
