State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with the visiting United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Beijing on April 8.

Wang said that China firmly defends the authority and status of the UN. Both sides agreed to promote globalization toward a more inclusive direction, and oppose any kind of protectionism. Both should insist on multilateralism, and fully play the core role of the UN.

Further closer cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative should be carried out by the two sides, said the state councilor.

The two also agreed that bilateral cooperation is of the utmost importance. Wang expressed the hope that the two sides will explore more potential to deepen cooperation in various fields.

Guterres appreciated China for always firmly supporting the UN and multilateralism, and expressed the will to deepen all-around cooperation with China.
