China and Brazil should jointly safeguard multilateralism, economic globalization and free trade, as well as defend legitimate interests of developing countries, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on May 15.

Wang made the remarks when meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes in Beijing.

As the largest developing countries in the eastern and western hemispheres, bilateral cooperation between China and Brazil has strong vitality and broad prospects, Wang said.

He called for equal synergy between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Brazil’s Investment Partnership Program, and strengthen pragmatic cooperation in various areas.

The Investment Partnership Program was launched by Brazilian President Michel Temer in 2016, aiming to generate jobs and growth for the country through new investments in infrastructure projects and privatization.
