State councilor meets with ministers of Djibouti, Lebanon and Jordan

BEIJING — State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on July 10 met here with ministers of Djibouti, Lebanon and Jordan.

During his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Wang said China-Djibouti cooperation benefits both peoples, calling on both sides to more firmly understand and support each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns.

He suggested both countries take the opportunity of the Belt and Road construction to enhance cooperation in various areas.

Youssouf appreciated China’s long-term assistance to Djibouti, saying that his country stands ready to boost bilateral cooperation and will continue to provide support and help to the operation of China’s support base in Djibouti.

During his meeting with Lebanese Economy Minister Raed Khoury, Wang said China is willing to further forge ahead pragmatic cooperation with Lebanon in the process of the Belt and Road construction, adding that China will continue to provide assistance to Lebanon within its power to address the refugee issue.

Khoury appreciated China’s assistance to Lebanon on its stability and development.

As Lebanon is under the reconstruction, Khoury said the country looks forward to China’s participation into the process, especially the infrastructural construction, adding that Lebanon would like to facilitate Chinese enterprises to the best of its ability.

When meeting with Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs of Jordan Ayman Safadi, Wang said China appreciates that Jordan firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and will always support Jordan in regional issues.

He congratulated Jordan on hosting the next ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF), and said he hopes the meeting will make a new contribution to the strategic partnership of China-Arab States.

Safadi said Jordan attaches great importance to the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to enhance cooperation with China under its framework.

Jordan hopes China will play an important and constructive role in the Middle East issues, he said.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Syrian issue.

All the three ministers were here to attend the eighth ministerial conference of the CASCF held here on July 10.
