Chinese, Japanese FMs hold phone conversation over G20 summit

BEIJING — State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono on June 26 over the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) summit in Osaka, Japan.

Wang said President Xi Jinping will attend the summit, which will be of great significance for improving global governance, upholding multilateralism, advancing the China-Japan relations and expanding practical cooperation.

He urged the two sides to keep in mind the big picture and long-term development, focus on consensus and ensure the complete, smooth and successful implementation of all agenda.

For his part, Kono said the Japanese side attaches great importance to Xi’s attendance at the summit and extends warm welcome to the Chinese president, hoping for positive signals from the two sides to promote a Japan-China relationship that fits into the new era.

The Japanese side is willing to work with the Chinese side to strengthen communication and coordination to ensure the success of the summit and all related events, he said.
