BEIJING — Vice-Premier Han Zheng has called for better medical insurance services to create a more secure society.

Han, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when inspecting the newly-established state medical insurance administration July 10.

The administration was officially set up in May, with the plan adopted by national legislature in March.

While saying the establishment of the administration was an important part of deepening the reform of the Party and state institutions, Han stressed the importance to improve the unified systems of basic medical insurance and serious disease insurance for rural and non-working urban residents, and solve problems caused by unbalanced and inadequate development in the medical insurance field.

“Efforts should be focused on basic medical needs to meet the most pressing will and demand of the people,” Han said.

Han also stressed that the price reduction of cancer drugs should be accelerated to ease the burden of medical costs.
