BEIJING — Prices of farm produce in China continued the upward trend last week, data from the Ministry of Commerce showed on Aug 11.
From Aug 3 to 9, the overall price of farm produce went up 0.5 percent on a weekly basis, compared with a 0.8-percent gain one week earlier.
In breakdown, the wholesale price of pork rose 1.2 percent to 48.75 yuan (about $7) per kg, while the price of beef and mutton edged up 0.2 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
The average wholesale price of 30 types of vegetables edged down 0.2 percent from a week earlier, the data showed.
Egg prices jumped 4.9 percent, narrowing from a 11.3-percent jump one week earlier.
Food accounts for about one-third of China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation.
The CPI grew 2.7 percent year-on-year last month, expanding from a 2.5-percent gain in June and a 2.4-percent rise in May, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
