BEIJING, June 16 -- China is striving to ensure a stable supply of electricity as temperatures soar in various regions nationwide, an official said Friday.

Along with local governments and power suppliers, relevant departments have put solid efforts in supply-demand forecasting, fuel supply, cross-regional power transmission, and the maintenance of electrical equipment, said Yu Bing, deputy head of the National Energy Administration, at a forum regarding electricity security.

State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) said that the electricity load had been on the rise since the beginning of summer, with the recent peak load hitting 890 million kilowatts.

Being China's major power supplier, the State Grid said that it would accelerate the construction of major power grid projects, and improve its emergency power supply schemes in case of typhoons, thunderstorms, mountain fires and other disasters.

As for the China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., which operates in the southern parts of the country, efforts will focus on safeguarding the industrial and supply chains to power regional economic and social development.

China's National Climate Center has recently forecast that the majority of the country is expected to see summer temperatures level with or higher than the average levels recorded in previous years.
