BEIJING, Dec. 21 -- Charity organizations, enterprises and individuals have donated or pledged to donate cash and supplies worth over 460 million yuan (64.85 million U.S. dollars) to areas of northwest China hit by a recent 6.2-magnitude earthquake, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said on Thursday.
Following the earthquake, civil affairs departments at all levels accelerated registration processes for public fundraising and charity projects related to disaster relief, and mobilized all sectors of society to make donations, the ministry said.
The ministry has also guided online public fundraising information platforms to activate emergency response mechanisms. Charity organizations have launched 225 public fundraising projects for disaster relief through 21 such platforms, raising more than 157 million yuan in donations to date.
The ministry said it will continue to guide civil affairs departments in the provinces of Gansu and Qinghai to receive, distribute, utilize and manage charity donations.
