Updated: April 23, 2024 08:31 Xinhua

BEIJING, April 22 -- Chinese authorities are strengthening efforts to guard against flooding due to heavy rainfall in south China's Guangdong Province.

A meeting held by several government organs, including the Ministry of Emergency Management and the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, on Monday emphasized the need for swift disaster relief and rescue operations, as well as the need to gear up for further heavy rain.

Teams dispatched from the drought relief headquarters will enhance guidance on evacuating residents in areas prone to mountain torrents and other geological disasters, preventing secondary disasters and restoring normalcy to life and work in affected regions.

China has allocated 6,000 folding beds, 6,000 towel coverlets and 3,000 family emergency kits, among other disaster relief supplies, to the areas impacted by flooding.

The latest data shows that four people have been killed as a result of the heavy rain, and 10 others remain missing. Guangdong has relocated some 110,000 residents to date, with 25,800 being resettled urgently.
