BEIJING, May 24 -- The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration on Friday evening issued a blue alert for mountain torrents in some parts of the country.

From 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, mountain torrents are likely to hit some areas in Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu, according to the alert.

It said that mountain torrents triggered by temporary heavy downpours may also occur in other regions.

Localities have been asked to take precautionary measures, including measures to strengthen real-time monitoring and flood warning procedures, as well as those to prepare for evacuation.
