Since its inception in 1978, the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program has turned vast desert areas into green landscapes across northwestern, northern and northeastern China.
Spanning 13 provinces and set to conclude by 2050, it has already achieved remarkable success in terms of improving ecological stability and supporting the local communities.
Highlights include the greening of Kubuqi Desert in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and extensive afforestation in Babusha area in northwest China's Gansu Province and Kekeya Township in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
