BEIJING, July 30 -- The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will be held in Beijing from Sept. 4 to 6, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced on Tuesday.
The theme of the summit is "Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future," Hua said, adding that leaders of FOCAC's African members will attend the summit at the invitation of the forum.
Representatives of relevant African regional organizations and international organizations will attend relevant forum events, she added.
At a regular press briefing held on Tuesday, another spokesperson Lin Jian said the FOCAC meeting this year will be the fourth time the forum is held in the form of a summit, via which the two sides will jointly renew friendship, discuss cooperation and map out the future.
Lin said the meetings of high-level officials and ministers will be held on Sept. 2 and 3, respectively, to make preparations for the summit. From Sept. 4 to 6, a series of activities will be held including the opening ceremony, welcome banquet, artistic performances, parallel high-level meetings, the China-Africa entrepreneurs' conference and bilateral meetings. "This is the second time that the family of China and Africa will gather in Beijing following the 2018 FOCAC Summit," said Lin.
Noting mutual respect, equal treatment and joint consultation are important features of the FOCAC, Lin said the two sides are in close communication and consultation on relevant preparatory work, including the relevant activities of the summit. China and Africa will continue to carry forward the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation and make the FOCAC summit another grand event to strengthen China-Africa friendship and unity.
"It is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, the 2024 FOCAC Summit will be a full success, open up new horizons in China-Africa relations and write a new chapter in building a China-Africa community with a shared future," Lin added.
