China's largest high-precision positioning network for electricity based on the homegrown BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) has been built in northwest China's Xinjiang. The first patrol inspection on the project was carried out with an unmanned aerial vehicle on a new BeiDou base station at a 110-kilovolt transformer substation in Xinyuan County of Xinjiang on Thursday. The drone has a device that receives signals from the BDS positioning network, and is thus able to carry out real-time centimeter-level inspections on the power grid equipment and generate millimeter-level images of the equipment.
