China has launched its first airborne survey of marine glaciers in Qamdo City, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, aiming to study their development and melting patterns to support natural resource management.
The survey, starting with the Renlongba Glacier, uses integrated satellite, aerial and ground-based methods to overcome challenges posed by high altitudes and harsh climates.
Marine glaciers, key indicators of climate change and vital freshwater sources, offer valuable insights into global climate processes and water cycles.
