Chinese premier chairs State Council executive meeting

BEIJING, May 9 -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday presided over a State Council executive meeting to study and implement the guiding principles of a speech made by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, at a symposium on China's economic and social development in the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).

The meeting also deliberated on a report on enhancing the quality and performance of pilot free trade zones, studied measures to deepen reforms and innovations in national-level economic and technological development zones, reviewed and adopted draft regulations on government data sharing, discussed a national layout plan for a waterborne traffic safety supervision and rescue system, and made arrangements for improving workplace safety.

The meeting emphasized the need to appropriately define targets and tasks in various fields during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

The meeting also stressed the need to align pilot free trade zones with high international standards for economic and trade rules and further promote institutional innovation.

The meeting emphasized the need to deepen the reform and innovation of national-level economic and technological development zones, promoting in-depth reforms and high-quality development through high-level opening-up.

The meeting also highlighted the need to establish a national integrated government big data system, promote the integrated application of data resources, better empower social governance and boost the industrial ecosystem, thereby strengthening new momentum for economic development.

The meeting emphasized the need to accelerate the construction of a modern waterborne traffic safety supervision and rescue system, strengthen coordination and cooperation among departments and localities, enhance innovation in essential equipment and key technologies, and create conditions to attract social capital to participate in major supervision and rescue engineering projects, thereby providing solid support for building China's strength in transportation.

The meeting also stressed the need to identify risks and hidden dangers in a down-to-earth manner and resolutely prevent the occurrence of serious safety accidents.
