Lancang-Mekong ministerial meeting calls for enhanced law enforcement, security cooperation

BEIJING, Sept. 15 -- A Lancang-Mekong ministerial meeting on law enforcement and security cooperation was held in Beijing on Monday, with participants agreeing to enhance law enforcement and security cooperation.

The meeting was chaired by Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong.

Noting this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism, Wang said in a keynote speech that in recent years law enforcement departments of LMC countries have earnestly implemented the consensus reached at the LMC leaders' meetings, jointly safeguarded regional security and stability, and achieved a series of cooperative outcomes, delivering tangible benefits to the people of all LMC countries.

Wang called on all parties to implement the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, improve the framework for regional security governance, crack down on transnational crimes such as telecom and online fraud, and fully support the development of the Lancang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center.

He stressed the need to jointly enhance law enforcement capabilities, promote security through cooperation and ensure development through security, and work together to build a Lancang-Mekong community that goes through thick and thin together and works together with one heart to advance the building of a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future.

Heads of delegations from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam said they will actively implement the outcomes of the meeting and further advance law enforcement and security cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region.

The meeting adopted the Joint Statement on Deepening Cooperation in Combating Transnational Crimes and the Joint Statement on Deepening Joint Patrol and Law Enforcement Cooperation along the Mekong River.
