WUHAN — A bridge museum opened to the public in the city of Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province on Dec 18.
The museum has a total of eight sections, with displays on bridges in ancient China and in modern times, bridges around the world and bridge culture.
Among the exhibits are design sketches of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, the first major bridge across the country's busiest waterway, a diving suit that the construction workers wore to build the bridge piers, and popular stamps and postcards of the bridge after it opened to traffic.
Covering an area of 3,000 square meters, the museum was built and designed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co Ltd.
Models of famous bridges from both home and abroad are also on display, said Cheng Liling, curator of the museum, adding that visitors will also be able to experience driving on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge with a virtual reality device and watch a 5D video on bridges through history.
"The bridge museum provides visitors an opportunity to fully feel the charm of the history, culture and technology of bridges," said Liu Ziming, president of the group.
A bridge-themed park is also planned to be built, presenting famous bridge builders, bridge construction scenes, related equipment and artworks.
