BEIJING — Three stadiums for Beijing 2022, including China's National Stadium, the Water Cube, and the National Speed Skating Hall are set to introduce 5G technology ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympiad.
Beijing State-owned Assets Management Company and China United Network Communications Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement to this end on Aug 8.
According to the agreement, the two sides will carry out in-depth cooperation in fields such as venue communication network construction and intelligent venue construction to jointly build 5G intelligent venues.
The aim is for the stadiums to provide a high-quality experience for spectators, event organizers, and venue owners.
Vice-President of Beijing State-owned Assets Management Wu Xiaonan said that based on the high speed and low latency of 5G technology, more usage scenarios will be implemented. For athletes and media reporters, 5G technology can facilitate more and faster data acquisition and transmission, which is helpful for broadcasting live action and for the real-time transmission of competition data.
