BEIJING — The newly-built Beijing Daxing International Airport has seen more flights move there from the Beijing Capital International Airport.
The MU2104 departed from Beijing Daxing International Airport at 10:13 am on April 26, heading for Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, marking that the third batch of flights transfer started.
As of April 26, China Eastern Airlines will gradually transfer its daily 57 flights from the Beijing Capital International Airport to the new airport.
After the transfer, over 66 percent of the flights in Beijing owned by China Eastern Airlines, and its subsidiary Shanghai Airlines and China United Airlines, will be operated in the new airport, with 241 flights operated each day.
The Beijing Daxing International Airport opened to flights in September 2019. Located 46 km south of downtown Beijing, the new aviation hub is shaped like a phoenix spreading its wings. Its passenger and cargo throughput is expected to reach 72 million and 2 million metric tons by 2025, with 620,000 takeoffs and landings.
