BEIJING — Domestic transmissions of the novel coronavirus have largely tapered off in China, though tight measures are still in place to guard against a rebound. The following is a brief look at China's local drives against the virus.

— Central China's Hubei province, where the hard-hit city of Wuhan is located, on May 28 reported no new confirmed COVID-19 cases, but there were two new asymptomatic cases, both in Wuhan.

By May 28, Hubei had five confirmed COVID-19 cases, including two in a severe condition. All five are in Wuhan.

Hubei has so far reported 68,135 confirmed COVID-19 cases in total, including 50,340 in Wuhan.

— No newly confirmed COVID-19 cases or asymptomatic cases were reported in Northeast China's Jilin province on May 28.

This means that Jilin has reported no newly confirmed locally transmitted COVID-19 cases for five consecutive days.

As of May 28, the province had reported a total of 136 confirmed locally transmitted cases, including two deaths and 117 who were discharged from hospital after recovery.

The city of Jilin has adopted stringent measures to curb the spread of the virus after Shulan, a county-level city administered by the city of Jilin, reported multiple domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases earlier this month.

— No new confirmed COVID-19 cases or asymptomatic infections were reported on May 28 in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, where the border city of Suifenhe is located.

As of May 28, the province had 11 asymptomatic COVID-19 cases.

The province had reported a total of 559 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases and 386 imported confirmed cases by May 28. It had been cleared of confirmed COVID-19 cases, as the last patient was discharged from hospital after recovery on May 16.

— A total of 20,000 surgical masks donated by Northwest China's Qinghai province to Burundi were shipped off on the morning of May 28 to aid the African country's fight against COVID-19.
