BEIJING — As it continues efforts to contain COVID-19, China is steadily reviving its economy. The following facts and figures indicate how the country is forging ahead in the economic sphere:
— China's transport industry recovered faster in April, with some indicators reporting growth, official data showed.
The country's cargo throughput at ports increased 4.1 percent year-on-year to 1.19 billion metric tons in April, recovering from a 2.4-percent contraction logged in March, according to data from the Ministry of Transport.
Foreign trade cargo throughput in April also rose 2.4 percent from March, the ministry said.
— China's rural e-commerce has been growing at a fast pace amid government initiatives to support rural consumption, data shows.
As of May 22, the country saw more than 87,000 newly registered rural e-commerce enterprises this year, up 13.6 percent from a year ago, data from the database query platform Tianyancha.com shows.
In the meantime, over 8,000 rural companies have added e-commerce, online sales or other related businesses, the figures show.
— China will hire 32,000 college graduates this year for community-level posts in education, agriculture, healthcare and poverty relief, authorities said.
This figure is up by 5,000 from last year, as the country pledged stronger fiscal support for the recruitment in a circular jointly released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Ministry of Finance.
The circular called for more posts for college graduates in areas of extreme poverty, as well as in regions hard hit by COVID-19.
