BEIJING — China's railway passenger traffic continued a recovery trend in June amid effective containment of the COVID-19 epidemic, data from the China State Railway Group Co Ltd showed.
Average daily passenger trips on trains stood at 5.53 million last month, more than quadruple from the traffic in February when passenger flows declined amid the epidemic outbreak, according to the company.
As China made continuous efforts to contain the epidemic, railway passenger trips have posted notable growth since March. Average daily passenger trips rose by 37.6 percent from April to 5.08 million in May, said the company.
The railway industry has offered better services to passengers amid epidemic prevention and control measures by facilitating ticket refunds and implementing flexible adjustments on transport capacity.
By the end of June, 166 million tickets had been canceled free of charge under an optimized refund policy and process.
Transport capacity has also been adjusted based on accurate analysis of passenger flows to meet the high demand on public holidays, while around 2 million seats have been offered each day at times with low passenger flows.
