The box office of locally produced films in Beijing will account for more than half of the total of the country by 2025, according to the city's plan for the industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), which was released recently.
According to the Beijing Municipal Film Administration, the capital aims at building itself into a core film zone including a demonstration zone the high-quality development of the film industry and China's first film hub of global importance.
To achieve the goal, Beijing will contract around five national key films, produce more than 30 municipal-level key films and fund of at least 20 locally produced films that will take in more than 100 million yuan ($15.76 million) each at the box office.
Under the plan, the number of cinemas in the city will surpass 300 by 2025. All residents will be able to reach at least one cinema within 3 kilometers of home.
More efforts will be made to improve the quality of filmmaking and boost the development of market entities. Beijing will also work to upgrade its film industry and empower it with science and technology to build a film innovation center.
