A special thematic dialogue to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China has been held in Shanghai. Dozens of diplomatic envoys have paid a visit to the memorial of the first National Congress of the CPC, also in Shanghai.

More than 40 foreign diplomats watched a group of new Communist Party of China members in Shanghai, at the site of the first ever National Congress.

The Party members had an average age of just 32, as they took their oaths to become fully fledged members of one of the world's biggest political parties.

The group of diplomats also visited the newly opened memorial site of the first National Congress of the CPC on June 16.

Many said they are impressed by China's recent history, and hope their countries can cooperate more closely in future.

"Now China is our first partner in commercial trade. Chile is for China the second partner in Latin America. Now we expect the next 50 years is better compared with last 50 years," said Luis Schmidt Montes, Chilean ambassador to China.

Fighting poverty has been one of the Party's central goals in recent years. Some of the diplomats from developing countries say they hope to learn from China's experiences.

"When they told them that they are going to change this poverty mountains to a better life. They don't question the party. They follow the party. Why the follow the party, because they trust the party. Why they trust the party, because they see how the party changed their life," said Gafar Karar Ahmed, Sudanese ambassador to China.

A special dialogue was also held on the night of June 16 in Shanghai, with Party representatives sharing their stories about how the transformation of Chinese society has shaped their lives.
