XINING — Home to the Yellow, the Yangtze and the Lancang rivers, Qinghai province is a key ecological protection zone and a vital water source in China, if not the whole of Asia.

Located in the hinterland of Qinghai province, the Yellow River source area of the Sanjiangyuan national park is where the Yellow River starts flowing eastward.

In recent years, the area's conservation efforts have been stepped up, and the ecological condition saw great improvement. As the population of rare wild animals such as black-necked cranes, snow leopards, Tibetan wild donkeys, Tibetan gazelles and blue sheep increases, the local biodiversity has been enriched.
