The South China National Botanical Garden, was inaugurated on July 11 in Guangzhou, the capital city of South China's Guangdong province. Built by generations of Chinese botanists, the garden has played a vital role in the development of global botany and undertaken important tasks in China's development.

A famous botanist Chen Huanyong founded the Institute of Agroforestry and Plants of the National Sun Yat-sen University in 1929, predecessor of the garden. In 1956, the garden was relocated to its present location. At present, it is also providing source plant resources, knowledge and technology support for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in urban greening, green development and rural revitalization.
