The Chinese government will work to accelerate removing risks and reinforcing reservoirs during the 14th Five-Year-Plan period (2021-2025), eliminate potential safety hazards involving dikes, and enhance construction of monitoring and early warning facilities, according to an official reply released on Jan 7 by the State Council.

The reply urged efforts from county-level governments to further reform the management system of small reservoirs, calling for a better, long-term operation, management and maintenance mechanism, to guarantee safe operations and long-term benefits of reservoirs.

Government at all levels must shoulder responsibilities in carrying out related work in their administrative areas, according to the reply.
