The State Council has approved a national territorial spatial plan for Hohhot, the capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, for the 2021-2035 period, according to an official reply issued on Dec 5.
As per the reply, by 2035, the total area of cultivated land in Hohhot should be no less than 8.2075 million mu, of which the protection area for permanent basic farmland should be at least 6.934 million mu, and the red line area for ecological protection should not be less than 3,100.46 square kilometers.
Hohhot should enhance supportive capacities in the sub-regional cooperation with bordering countries, participate deeper in the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and in the collaboration with cities including Baotou and Ordos in Inner Mongolia, as well as Yulin in Shaanxi province, the circular said.
The circular demanded Hohhot’s efforts in jointly promoting ecological protection and high-quality development of the regions along the Yellow River, as well as constructing the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program.
The city was also asked to improve the spatial arrangement of agriculture and animal husbandry production and to carry out saline-alkali soil utilization in a proper manner.
Protection of cultural relics including the Tuchengzi ancient city site in Horinger county, the city wall and the general’s government office in Suiyuan during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) should be strengthened, the circular added.
