Premier Li Keqiang met with Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, to hear her reports on the HKSAR's government's engagements in the current social situation on Dec 16 in Beijing.
Vice-Premier Han Zheng also attended the meeting.
Premier Li said that Lam's report has drawn wide attention. Turbulence triggered by amendments to the fugitive offenders ordinance has been plaguing Hong Kong society in all aspects till now.
The State Council remains a stickler for the "one country, two systems" policy and supports Lam's law-based administrative work for the sake of a long-term prosperous and stable Hong Kong, the Premier said.
The State Council fully affirms the laudable efforts the HKSAR's government has made. At the downslope of economic development, Hong Kong is now faced with gravely impaired industries.
Against the backdrop of the unprecedented complications, the HKSAR's government pledges to uphold an ordered society, with a slew of polices carried out, in a bid to support enterprises and guarantee favorable employment, the Premier said.
At present, Hong Kong is not over the hard times yet, the Premier noted. HKSAR's government must constantly endeavor to stop the violence, end the chaos and restore order.
Efforts should be stepped up to investigate and solve the deep-rooted conflicts and problems in Hong Kong's economic and social development to bring it long-term prosperity and stability, he said.
For her part, Lam said that Hong Kong has been going through a severe situation in politics, economy and society during the past year, but her administration has rolled out a batch of measures to restore order and help out enterprises and the people.
She expressed her gratitude to the central government for its support, saying the Hong Kong government will go all-out to develop the economy, improve people's livelihoods and integrate Hong Kong's development into the big picture of the whole nation.
And, Hong Kong will expand international cooperation to consolidate its center position in international finance, trade and the shipping industry, she said.
State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Xiao Jie also attended the meeting.
