Vice-premier attends national science, tech event

Vice-Premier Liu He, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the 2020 National Science and Technology Week in Beijing on Aug 23.

In a video link with attendees from the Wuhan venue, the vice-premier acknowledged the role of powerful science and technology in helping Hubei province advance social and economic development while enhancing epidemic prevention and control.

He asked about the progress in China’s second comprehensive scientific expedition to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in another video link with the research team, sending his greetings and congratulations.

After the opening, Liu visited exhibition areas featuring topics such as achievements from scientific and technological innovation, and expressed his gratitude to scientists who have made significant contributions to social and economic development and the anti-virus fight backed by science and technology.

Cai Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, was also present at the ceremony.
