TIANJIN — Over 99.9 percent of China’s dairy products have met national quality standard for five consecutive years, said the country’s top quality watchdog.
According to sample tests, the safety and nutrition level of the country’s dairy products is nearly the same as that of international products, Ma Chunliang, an official with the State Administration for Market Regulation, said at the 10th Dairy Conference of China that closed on July 14 in Tianjin.
China has been upgrading its dairy industry with improved supply-chain management and safety supervision, as the country’s growing consumer power calls for high-quality and more diverse dairy products.
The country aims to maintain a self-sufficiency ratio of baby formula above 60 percent to meet the growing demand, according to an official plan released in June.
Per capita consumption of dairy products reached 34.3 kg in 2018, 76 times that in 1949.
