BEIJING — A total of 5,354 museums across China held 26,000 exhibitions and some 260,000 other educational activities on cultural relics in 2019, according to the National Cultural Heritage Administration.
The events have drawn around 1.13 billion visitors, said Liu Yuzhu, head of the agency, at a two-day meeting which ended on Dec 31.
Spending holidays at museums has become a new trend in China, as over 40 percent of tourists had visited museums during the Spring Festival, the National Day holiday, among other national holidays, said Liu.
Meanwhile, museums have put online the information of more than 5 million pieces of cultural relics in their collections to further promote public access.
