BEIJING — The supply of key farm produce remains generally adequate in the market despite the coronavirus fallout, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Feb 18.

As of Feb 17, the wholesale price of pork had held steady at about 50 yuan ($7.16) per kg and the average prices of 28 vegetables increased 7.2 percent to 5.83 yuan per kg from Jan 23, said Song Danyang, a senior official with the ministry, at a news conference.

The wholesale prices of eggs and poultry, however, had softened over the same period, data showed.

Song added that the prices of vegetables in Wuhan, the epicenter of the epidemic, have fractionally retreated after seeing an uptick in early February.

The ministry has smoothed the channels for farm produce sales and organized wholesale markets to purchase farm produce stock in response to the fluctuating prices in some areas to minimize the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak, according to Song.
