BEIJING — A total of 53 patients of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were discharged from hospitals on May 8 after recovery on the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said on May 9.

Altogether 78,046 patients had been cured and discharged from hospitals by the end of May 8, the commission said in its daily report.

As of May 8, 82,887 confirmed COVID-19 cases had been reported on the mainland, and 4,633 people had died of the disease.
