BEIJING — The wholesale prices of China's agricultural products dropped on May 18, according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
By 2 pm on May 18, the China agricultural product wholesale price index stood at 113.65, down 0.98 points from May 15.
The average wholesale price of pork, a staple meat in China, dropped by 1.3 percent to 39.01 yuan (about $5.48) per kilogram, while eggs dropped by 1 percent to 6.63 yuan per kg.
The average wholesale price of 28 types of vegetables, monitored by the government, edged down 1 percent to 3.82 yuan per kg, while six different types of fruits saw average prices increase by 2.1 percent.
The wholesale price index is compiled from data collected from around 200 agricultural wholesale markets. It is updated daily based on the weighted average of price indexes for goods including vegetables, fruit, aquatic products, livestock, cereals and edible vegetable oil.
