Premier Li: China will continue support for UN

Premier Li Keqiang met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Sept 19.

Premier Li said that China is not only a supporter and participant of the UN cause, but also a staunch defender of the principles of the UN Charter. China will continue its support for the UN to play an important role and make contributions to world peace and development.

The Premier said that 2016 marks the start of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

China, as the biggest developing country, is willing to work with other countries, take up responsibilities compatible with our abilities and make continuous efforts to improve global governance and reap mutual benefits, said the Premier

Premier Li said he hopes that the UN can fulfill its obligation to maintain world peace and make development issue a top priority.

Ban Ki-moon welcomed Premier Li to the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly and said China has played a significant role in international affairs.

The UN appreciates China’s active involvement in the UN agenda, such as climate change and sustainable development, and its great contribution to the South-South cooperation and international peacekeeping efforts, said Ban.

Ban reiterated that the UN is willing to work closely with China to cope with the challenges facing all people and promote world peace and development.
