Premier Li Keqiang inspected the Ministry of Finance on March 21, where he visited the value-added tax (VAT) bureau of its tax administration department.
It was the second time in three years that the Premier visited the small office of less than 30 square meters.
On April 1, 2016, Premier Li went there to inspect the latest developments in the reform of replacing the business tax with VAT. It served as a turnover tax bureau at that time.
The office was then renamed the VAT bureau, and takes on the work of assessing and comparing the VAT reform plan in the larger-scale tax reduction initiative.
Any tax cut initiatives that start here should also be completed in the same place, Premier Li said, expressing his hope that the bureau will live up to the expectations of market players.
