Premier meets Cambodian deputy prime minister

Premier Li Keqiang met with Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian deputy prime minister and foreign minister, at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing on May 31.

Premier Li said that China and Cambodia hold a deep friendship and have worked together to improve peoples’ livelihoods and develop an economy based on mutual respect and equal treatment, adding that China supports Cambodia to take a development path in line with its own realities.

China is willing to dock its development strategies with Cambodia and deepen cooperation in key areas to bring more benefits to both peoples, he said.

According to the Premier, China would like to enhance work with Cambodia under frameworks including China-ASEAN (10+1) and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, push forward negotiations on the Code of Conducts in South China Sea, and support Cambodia to hold the 2020 Asia-Europe Meeting.

Sokhonn said that Cambodia and China have maintained a healthy and stable relationship and that he appreciates China’s support and assistance.

Cambodia is willing to increase high-level communication with China, enhance cooperation in regional and global issues, and build a shared future for Cambodia and China.

State Councilor Wang Yi and He Lifeng, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, also attended the meeting.
