New optical features will be among the changes to the 100 yuan bill, which will improve protection against counterfeiting and help financial institutions handle bank notes.

The People’s Bank of China announced on Aug 10 that it will begin issuing the new bills on Nov 12.

Advanced anti-counterfeiting technologies will make it easier for the public to discern a false bank note, the central bank said on its website.

For instance, the “100” figure printed at the center of the bill changes from gold to green when it is looked at from different angles.

The current 100 yuan bills were issued in August 2005. Over the past 10 years, the boom in vending machines and ATMs has raised the requirements for the readability of bank notes. Also, some criminals have found new technologies to counterfeit bank notes.
