BEIJING — China’s mobile phone shipments continued its rally with 1.2 percent year-on-year growth to 38.29 million units in May, according to a report.
Total shipments during the January-May period reached 152 million units, down 4.8 percent from the same period last year, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said in its report.
Shipment of 4G phones hit 36.48 million, up by 1.2 percent year-on-year, accounting for 95.3 percent of the total shipments in May, according to CAICT.
Home-made brands accounted for 91.3 percent of the total shipments last month, with a 2.7-percent increase year on year to 34.96 million units.
Meanwhile, smartphone shipments expanded 1.3 percent year-on-year to 36.44 million units, accounting for 95.1 percent of the gross shipments in May, CAICT said.
