Changchun, the capital city of Northeast China’s Jilin province, has been officially listed as a National Famous Historical and Cultural City, according to a circular released by the State Council on Oct 26.
The city is best known for its rich historical relics, unique urban landscape and industrial heritage.
The local authority is required to protect the cultural city, with efforts to make a protection plan, mark out historical and cultural areas and streets, improve the urban environment, and renovate historical buildings.
The circular also said that the authorities should not permit any construction projects that are incompatible with the city’s environment and landscape.
