The combination of the Internet and “Made in China 2025”, supplemented by mass innovation and entrepreneurship, is expected to trigger a “new Industrial Revolution”, Premier Li Keqiang said at a State Council executive meeting on Oct 14.

“In the field of consumption, China’s innovative model of Internet Plus has been leading the globe. Therefore, we should connect Made in China 2025 in industry and manufacturing with the model, as well as the policy of mass innovation and entrepreneurship,” the Premier said.

Premier Li also urged all levels of government to further explore technical reform and product innovation to deal with pressures from the economic downturn, especially the lack of momentum in industrial growth.

“In the past, the government allocated funds to enterprises, helping them upgrade their technology. Today, however, the Internet has created an enormous space to integrate various social resources,” he said.

Pointing to an enterprise in Dalian, Liaoning province, that has summoned 280,000 engineers to an online registration platform, offering technical upgrade solutions for 30,000 machine tools, Premier Li said technological innovation in the industrial sector, driven by the Internet, is the new Industrial Revolution in a real sense.

“The core of Made in China 2025 lies in smart upgrades, and a combination of industrialization and informatization,” he said.

Furthermore, Premier Li urged enterprises to reform on their own systems with market approaches while promoting technological innovation.
